Trailering Your Boat

Boat on trailerTrailering your boat and launching at a boat ramp is a popular way to get on the water in Florida. We have public & private boat launch sites through out the state allowing those who trailer the opportunity to explore many bodies of water.

Some launch sites offer amenities such as fuel, snacks, tackle, rest rooms, and licenses, but not many so check beforehand.

Most boat launch sites charge a small fee for launching and parking your boat and trailer. Annual permits are also available in many counties for a nominal fee. Every vehicle must pay a parking fee, so warn your guests. Always pay the fee and put your receipt in the drivers side front windshield. These sites are actively used and patrolled by law enforcement who will issue you an expensive ticket for not complying with the rules.

Visit our webpage Trailering Your Boat for information on regulations, proper trailering, etc.

Launching Your Boat

Boat launch ramp with docks and loading areaLaunching your boat is usually a two man job, one man or woman will back the trailer down the ramp while the other person will be manoeuvering the boat either on or off the trailer.

Many launch sites have loading areas where your guests can climb aboard with their gear other sites only offer access to the water so you must have your boat loaded and ready to go once it hits the water. Other sites have docks where you can tie the boat up while loading/unloading.

Once you have dropped your boat in the water, quickly drive away from the ramp and park your vehicle allowing others to use the ramp.

Tip iconGet to the boat ramp early on the weekends, especially during the winter season, as parking space is limited at some sites. Be courteous of other launchers waiting to enter or exit the waters. Never linger at the launch ramp, especially if there are other boaters waiting at the ramp.

Trailers

Since boat launch ramps are patrolled by authorities regularly, be sure your boat and trailer comply with Florida state regulations. See our Boating Regulations page for information on boat trailers. For information on safely setup your trailer and tow your boat check out http://www.boat-ed.com/fl/course/p2-4_trailering.htm.
