Southwest Florida runs from Charlotte County in the north to Collier County
in the south, all bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Southwest Florida offshore is a sandy hard bottom with small patches of coral and lots of reefs. Collier County Sea Grant's website has a great article describing the structure of our sandy hard bottom. Inshore, Southwest Florida is blessed with hundreds of miles of mangrove estuaries loaded with fish, most of which are in the 10,000 Islands. For the surf and beach angler Lee County beaches span 47 total miles, Collier County has 40 miles, and Charlotte County has 12 miles of beaches. For the freshwater angler the Everglades and numerous national parks offers limitless fresh and brackish fishing.
